Writing True

Elizabeth Bennett

If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?

I love her character:

She’s smart,

She’s gutsy,

She’s witty,

And a dignified young lady

Worthy of a man of character

Such as Mr. Darcy.

Writing True

Courage

It takes a step,

A leap,

A move—

Then an act

To deal with your battles.

Always consider hope and faith

In your artillery;

And victory will be on your side.

Everything is possible given time.

Writing True

Reality Check

Life is a series of choices,

And few cameo of coincidences—

The plot isn’t made

Not until you choose to

And time agrees with you.

Writing True

Right of Way

The doves are flock-walking

At a marked cross-walk;

calm and collected

They’re crossing the street,

fearing nothing.

The car drivers can’t do anything;

But to wait patiently—

They can’t honk horns.

It’s a no-no in Hawaii!

Besides,

The doves have the right way;

The car drivers can’t really do anything,

But to enjoy the sight

Of the law abiding flock.

Writing True

By giving myself to worthy endeavors

How would you improve your community?

I volunteered preparing taxes for over a decade through the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii and for the Internal Revenue Service.

I did the same with the Leeward Community College of the University of Hawaii.

And I did it all at the lowest point in my life when I was sick and unemployed.

Modesty aside, I am proud of it not for myself, but for the community who embraced me and gave me the privilege to serve. Because if they didn’t allow me to be a part of such a noble thing, I don’t know where I would be right now.

It inspired me to go back and finished college so I can give more to the community. Truly, I am grateful for everything.

To God be all the Glory!

It is through giving and helping the less fortunate that you make your life meaningful.
Writing True

Thank God for a brand new day!

What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

Read a verse;

Say a prayer,

Sing a praise—

Give thanks for the grace

Of a brand new day.

Happy Easter

Glory to You, Oh God!
Writing True

Anything that tickles my fancy

What makes you laugh?

A joke, a parody, a good humor

Or any comedic act—

Makes me crack and laugh.

Laughter’s tender dose

Is what we all need

To balance the roughness of life.
