Tests

Inspired by Emily Dickinson’s The Test

On Scranton or not

Proctored or not—

Don’t cheat.

Don’t miss a question.

Preparation

Is prelude

To beating the examination.

Brokenness,

Emptiness,

Loneliness,

Nothingness,

Indebtedness—

These taxes to one’s character—

Sometimes, to someone,

They seemed inevitable and unbeatable.

But there is a thing of muscle called grit,

Which is synonymous to hard work and perseverance,

Sanity and determination;

Which upend the peeve.

Life—oh what a glorious feat!

You Can Do Better

See people in their eyes;

And look beyond

What their eyes can’t show.

Hear what people say;

And listen beyond

What they can’t put into words.

. . . understanding humanity,

. . . forbearing incapability,

. . . considering incompetency.

Dodge judgment.

Duck prejudice.

Eschew bias.

Being a good neighbor is not a joke.

‘T is a noble task

Towards a better you.

A True Story

One bright Monday morning,

I sat by a church under a big tree,

I was taking a quick break,

Enjoying the fresh air.

A dove—a pigeon as locals would say,

Landed in front of me.

And me,

Bewildered I said to myself,

“What a beauty, a blessing—

Thank God!”

But in split second,

The beauty turned into a bully!

. . . took a mean act of nature right in front of me,

And just like that.

I sighed.

Because with all the bullying

I went through in life

—subtle or not—

—inspired by faith—

Now, not a thing:

Be winged—

Or a critter,

Or a bipedal thing—

None can bully me

No more.

For all that I went through,

I moved on.

I affirmed the blessings;

I acknowledged the healing

Of course, from the Almighty loving,

Who I hear everyday,

Saying “‘Fear nothing,

For I am with you’ sweet thing.”

Thank You, Father! And to You be all the glory!

Hope

A day without hope is gloomy:

Darkness permeates the heart

and brings doom in mind.

It weakens the spirit

that not even a leaf is light enough for the burdened soul.

When sun’s a bay;

Someone is surely in dismay.

For hope is a thing of light;

The very essence of dawn,

The happy Casper of dusk whispers “tag along.”

In trio with faith and love—

Thou shall not doubt.

The Glory of Living

The Glory of Living

. . . is a walk
enjoyed by two–

not a marathon
run by one.
