Aging Gracefully

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Youth may have abandon me,

But wisdom took her place.

I’m becoming quiet,

Discerning the noise over relevant.

My gray hairs would speak

That I am wiser than ever before.

In moving, such as walking,

I maybe slower;

But please,

Drop the suffixes,

Because I am not competing with anyone.

I am grateful that I had my time and

I have enjoyed most of it.

Thank you, yesteryears!

Writing True

I am responsible for my future.

Describe something you learned in high school.

Gone are the days, when teachers would be there to guide you all throughout.

When adulthood begins, here comes a life filled with responsibilities—and there’s no turning back.

To exercise with the elders in the park

What’s the most fun way to exercise?

Some do yoga. Some do tai-chi. Some are walking. But whatever they do—they inspire me to do my thing too (and not to mention you’d feel younger too). Then again, amid aging; they have the determination to stay fit and be on “top of the game.”

Elizabeth Bennett

If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?

I love her character:

She’s smart,

She’s gutsy,

She’s witty,

And a dignified young lady

Worthy of a man of character

Such as Mr. Darcy.

By giving myself to worthy endeavors

How would you improve your community?

I volunteered preparing taxes for over a decade through the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii and for the Internal Revenue Service.

I did the same with the Leeward Community College of the University of Hawaii.

And I did it all at the lowest point in my life when I was sick and unemployed.

Modesty aside, I am proud of it not for myself, but for the community who embraced me and gave me the privilege to serve. Because if they didn’t allow me to be a part of such a noble thing, I don’t know where I would be right now.

It inspired me to go back and finished college so I can give more to the community. Truly, I am grateful for everything.

To God be all the Glory!

It is through giving and helping the less fortunate that you make your life meaningful.

Thank God for a brand new day!

What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

Read a verse;

Say a prayer,

Sing a praise—

Give thanks for the grace

Of a brand new day.

Anything that tickles my fancy

What makes you laugh?

A joke, a parody, a good humor

Or any comedic act—

Makes me crack and laugh.

Laughter’s tender dose

Is what we all need

To balance the roughness of life.

Pain

What’s something most people don’t understand?

Often part of our growth,

All of us have gone or going through some sort of pain.

Kindness and empathy ease the sore;

Heals and lifts languishing body and soul.
